The Wild Horses of Cotopaxi, Ecuador
The wild horses are called párameros because they live and thrive on the high, desert-like tundra which is called the paramo. The number of horses have fluctuated over the years but a scientific survey published in 2013 states that there are about 200 animals in Cotopaxi National Park. These horses are broken into several herds, each with a lead stallion.
