Bridge # 35-04-P The West Liberty Covered Bridge has been called the shortest covered bridge in the United States. The bridge, one of 17 drivable covered bridges in the county, was designed by John Smolen, former Ashtabula County Engineer and the designer of the Smolen–Gulf Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the U.S., also in Ashtabula County.
Bridge # 35-07-05 Originally built in 1891 in Fairfield County and rescued from destruction in the late 1960’s, the bridge was reconstructed on the present site in 1975. It was constructed in the multiple kingpost truss style by Fairfield native and expert covered bridge builder, James W. Buchanan. Total length is 68 feet.
