Bridge # 35-15-08 Ohio Historical Marker - Salt Creek Bridge/Timber Covered Bridges near Norwich in Muskingum County, Ohio Timber covered bridges were vital lines in the early road, railroad and canal systems of Ohio and contributed greatly to the growth and development of the state. They were covered with roof and siding to protect the heavy timber trusses from the weather. Many of them have carried their loads well over a century. Fine craftsmen, using broadax, pitsaw and froe, were able to construct these sturdy bridges by hand. Bridge # 35-15-08 The Church Hill Road Covered Bridge is a covered bridge in Columbiana County, Ohio. It was originally located over Middle Fork Little Beaver Creek in Elk Township. The bridge was constructed in 1870 and was relocated in 1982 near the Lock 24 Restaurant on Ohio route 154 east of Lisbon, Ohio. Spanning 19 feet 3 inches, the bridge is one of the shortest covered bridges for public highway use in the United States. It is a 2-panel single kingpost design.
